Sept. 11, 2007
On Sept. 12, 2007 the County Police expanded the existing Pay for Information or Evidence Program to provide a monetary payment for information for the recovery of a firearm used in a violent crime; unlawfully obtained, or in the unlawful possession of a person (convicted felon, person under age 18 in unlawful possession of a pistol, carrying a weapon within a school safety zone, etc).
The expansion is referred to as a Gun Bounty Program that will focus on firearms as evidence of a crime. Those persons who furnish information who feel their identity must be protected out fear for their safety will be kept confidential. They will be considered a confidential informant and assigned a code number for tracking and accountability purposes. Upon an investigator or officer recovering the firearm based on the information provided, the person will receive a reward of up to $1,000. Any firearm recovered that was used in a violent crime will receive $1,000. Information provided that leads to the recovery of a firearm unlawfully obtained or in the unlawful possession of a person will be evaluated on a case-by-case basis for a monetary reward up to $1,000. Any person involved in the crime for which the firearm is recovered is not eligible for a reward.
A dedicated phone number of 912-554-7847 was installed in the Criminal Investigations Division for persons to call to leave their name and information directly to a Detective. A Detective will be assigned to calls received for a follow-up. Although a Detective may not be readily available, a caller can leave a message for a Detective to call back. Managing this program is Capt. Marissa Tindale, our Chief Detective.
On Sept. 11, 2007 at the request of Chief Doering, the Finance Committee of the Glynn County Board of Commissioners approved for the full Board’s consideration of allowing the Police Department to accept private donations for this program.
